Default Beginners help- Urgent

Dear All,

I hope, that I am the right place to ask website related questions.... I am a beginner but willing to learn and develop my skills of website designing. I have a goal but I do not know where to start from.

I would like to design a website something along the lines of:

Facebook | Welcome to Facebook!
www.orkut.com
hi5 - Who's in?

My questions are:

Where should I start ?

What do I need to learn ( SQL etc etc ) from start till end ?

How much server space do I need to host such a website ?

Assuming I can learn fast how much work is involved to create a website like this ?

I would appreciate any kind of help in this matter.

Thanks and best regards,

Samad Ilyas

Default

you want to start with a server side language like php, asp, perl, coldfusion, etc.... from there you want the ssl to contact a database like ruby, mysql, mssql, postgresql or any other database.

In all, it would probably be quite a bit of work. If you are staring from scratch, i would reccomend starting with a smaller project and maybe working your way up.

if you want to know my suggestion on what to use, i would learn PHP and SQL (and use the database postgresql) seen how those are my favorites to doing that sort of thing.

but this would be alot of work.
