Question Directory domain name .com or .info

Hello everyone,

I want to start a directory and one of my friend who has been a webmaster for long time advise me to buy a .com domain name, that I will beable to sell or with .com domain name than other domain name. I will want to buy a .info domain name for the propose directory, I am now confuse on which type of domain name extension to buy. Is it true that .com domain name will sell better than .info domain name.

I like to know your opinion, on the best domain name extension for directory.
Thanks.

well, yes, .com sells best because it is best known, then probably .net then .org.

.info is generally for what it says, information sites... in other words what ICANN & Network Solutions came up with is different extensions for different types of sites, although you are not required to oby by this it is reccomended.

.com <-- origionally stood for commercial, for buisnesses and such
.org <-- origionally stood for orginization, for orginizations and such
.net <-- origionally stood for network, for media and community type sites
.biz <-- origionally stood for buisness, much like .com but lesser used
.info <-- origionally stood for information, usually for artical and informational sites
.us <-- origionally stood for united states, usually for sites that are spacifically for the united states
.gov <-- origionally stood for government, you must be a government agency to own this domain
.edu <-- origionally stood for education, you must be in the educational field for this site (ie: colledges, univercities, schools, exc...)
.tv <-- origionally stood for television, usually for television, media or other similer sites
.mobi <-- origionally stood for mobal, generally for mobal devises like cell phones/pdas

you can find out more here:

but like i said, .com sells best because it is most well known and .com domains are selling like crazy.
