Default Help needed please

I have no working knowledge of website creation/design/development or maintenance - so pretty useless then!

My business has 2 existing websites live, neither of which are achieving anything. I have already spent quite a lot on getting this far and don't wish to go on throwing money at it, until it/they start to show some results.

I have editing access to both sites bit this only allows me to modify text content and I wish to add articles, newsletters etc. on a fairly regular basis to try to make the site(s) more topical and informative.

The site designers have given me the necessary access codes but I don't know where/how to start. I have obtained Net Objects Fusion 10 but couldn't import my site(s). It said it couldn't find/access the server, I think this is because it's 'virtual'??

I managed to download all the HTML pages but don't know how to import it into NFO as one 'unit' to be able to start working on it.

I really would appreciated any guidance that anyone can offer?

thanks.

if i understand you correctly, you are trying to switch providers?...

to do so, you will need to wait until your DNS resoves down the line, this usually clears every 4-10 days depending on each DNS server.

First you will need to find out who your dns server is... if you can give me the address of your site i can do a lookup on who is handling it, your host or your domain name registrar. Second you will need to change the "A" record(s) to the new IP address of the new host, then you will need to add the site through your admin pannel. If your host uses cPanel, it will not allow you to add new domains unless the ip of the domain is pointed to that server first. so you "might" be without your site for up to 10 days unless you keep both hosts active, change the "A" record, when the other host is ready add it asap.

It is quite annoying switching hosts, some times your new host will help with the process, however dont count too much on it.

BTW... everything you are explaining sounds like you could just use: ( drupal.org | Community plumbing ) which has many addons that do the "extra" stuff.

Actually, no - sorry if I didn't make it clear.

I'm not switching, I have been given the access necessary to allow me to edit/alter/add to the site(s) - I just don't know how to do it.

As stated, I have NOF 10, have managed to download the HTML pages but don't know how to import them into NOF to work on them (edit and add further pages).

cheers

depending on if the people used a scripting language or not, it might be difficult to do stuff. That is why i said you should use a content manager like Drupal.

They gave you ftp support i am assuming?... try downloading SmartFTP - FTP Client it is eassy to use and free.

You just input the ftp address, username, and password then open and it should show a bunch of files...

You can then copy all the files into a directory on your computer (by dragging and dropping) then you can edit them from your computer, when you are done, just drag them back to smart ftp and it should do what you want.

Without being there to help you it is quite hard, but this is the best i can do,
